Robben Island

Today we visited Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. We took a ferry and toured the island with an ex-prisoner and saw the cell that Mandela was held in.

South African Penguins

Drove along the coast of Cape Town to see the South African penguins. This little guy was just as curious about me as I was about him. We got to see some of the penguins hanging out on the beach area (like this guy), then we also got to see some swimming in the ocean!

Capetown

Yesterday we boarded a plane for the short flight from Port Elizabeth to Capetown. It was sad to leave all the friends we’d made, but exciting to continue our journey.

Wine Tasting in Capetown

After our company visit to Sanlam, we enjoyed the afternoon at Avontuur Winefarm just outside Capetwon. We were able to taste some of their most popular wines as well as those that were unique to South Africa. The surrounding landscape was beautiful.

Tsitsikamma Lodge

Yesterday we stayed the night at a lodge in Tsitkamma that was located in the middle of a forest area. This was our view of the forest from our cabin. We had a bonfire yesterday night, and we had a lot of fun just chilling outside. We were all excited that we got to see yet another side of South Africa.

Sundowners with Jaco

IMG_3604We enjoyed a braii (BBQ) night with professors and students from NMMU. It was a fun last night with some of the friends we made in Port Elizabeth. Jaco hosted us and served Wors, Springbok, Steak, and other delicious meats. He is a retired proffesor from the University and has a beautiful home.
